The Egyptian artist Elham Shahin has come forward to respond to the recent dispute that arose between her and the former president of Zamalek Club, Mortada Mansour, following a series of exchanged statements and criticisms between them. She confirmed that she does not intend to engage in arguments on social media and is waiting for the right time to respond to the insults she has been subjected to.
First Comment
Elham Shahin stated in a special statement to “Okaz” that she does not wish to chase trends or respond to everything that is said about her, out of respect for her audience who follows her artistic work, saying: “I will not be drawn into trends, and the law will settle any transgressions between us.”
Her Stance on Resorting to Legal Action
She added that she will resort to the law if her name is mentioned clearly and explicitly in an offensive context, confirming that hints are not enough to take legal action against a specific person.
In her first indirect comment on the crisis, Shahin posted on her “Facebook” account a saying: “If the fool speaks, do not respond to him; the best response is silence,” which followers linked to the exchanged statements between her and Mansour.
How Did the Crisis Begin?
The beginning of the dispute dates back to statements made by Elham Shahin during the opening of the eleventh edition of the Sharm El-Sheikh International Festival for Youth Theatre, where she criticized some practices prevalent on social media, considering that allowing everyone to comment on various issues without having sufficient knowledge represents a significant crisis.
She also criticized the method of stopping citizens in the streets and filming them while asking them questions, pointing out that some of these encounters end with embarrassing situations and inappropriate responses, including the phrase “Ask your mother.”
Escalation of the Dispute
In response, Counselor Mortada Mansour reacted to the artist’s statements with sharp criticisms, saying: “Leave me alone, Elham; I know everything about you,” hinting that he possesses information and details that he claimed would surprise the audience.
Mansour escalated the confrontation through a post on his “Facebook” account, in which he announced that he would respond to Elham Shahin’s statements on November 5 in front of one of the major hotels in Cairo, saying: “Wait for me, you and those behind you.”
