The Palestinian girl Nasreen Skik conveyed the suffering of children in Gaza to the world through her mobile phone, reaching the finals of the Digital Content Creators Awards for 2026 as one of the top 8 content creators globally.
From Suffering to the Finals
Skik, who is 12 years old and known on social media as Nasreen Kenzi, had only her phone and her determination to document scenes of displacement, hunger, and fear in the Gaza Strip, at a time when families were trying to survive with what little remained of their lives.
From the heart of this suffering, the Palestinian girl reached the finals of the “Digital Content Creators Awards” for 2026, in the category of children and youth, carrying with her the stories, dreams, and hopes of the children of Gaza, while also holding on to her own dream.
The award announced on October 17 that Skik had qualified for the finals, while the public participates in voting to choose the winners across multiple categories celebrating digital content creators.
From Displacement to Documentation
The war changed the details of Nasreen’s life and the lives of the children around her, as they were forced to leave their homes, toys, and belongings tied to their childhood memories, while the war destroyed much of what they left behind.
Nasreen decided to convey what was happening in Gaza to the world, so she picked up her mobile phone and began documenting the scenes she lived and observed around her, trying to relay the suffering of children and families to an audience that follows her on social media platforms.
Escaping Death
Skik summarizes her experience by saying, “Displacement is not a transition from one place to another, but an escape from death to death.”
She also describes hunger as a harsh experience that is difficult for a child to endure, saying, “Hunger is going to bed hungry or not finding a morsel to eat, and that is very hard.”
For Nasreen, photography is not just a hobby or a means to share content on social media; it represents an attempt to convey the suffering of children who many of them cannot express what they are experiencing to the world.
She says her message is to convey the dreams, hopes, pains, and futures of children, so that their stories are not reduced to scenes of destruction and displacement alone.
1.4 Million Followers
Nasreen continues to document the details of daily life, the suffering of the displaced, children’s stories, and attempts to endure and live through her Instagram account, which has surpassed 1.4 million followers.
However, conveying these details to the world is not without difficulties, as operating the phone and connecting to the internet is a daily challenge amid power outages and a lack of services in the Gaza Strip.
The Skik family is forced to travel long distances to charge the phone, while accessing the internet requires purchasing SIM cards that may only allow for a few minutes of use.
Nasreen says, “We did the impossible to be able to convey what is happening to us to the world.” She emphasizes her determination to continue producing content despite these obstacles.
Skik confirms that being chosen among the nominees gave her a sense of pride, as she was able to carry the voice of the children of Gaza to the world, and she thanks everyone who supported her, voted for her, and believed in her message, saying, “I thank everyone who helped me convey the voice of the children of Gaza to the world.”
A Dream Beyond Content Creation
Despite the harsh experience she is living, Nasreen clings to dreams that go beyond photography and content creation, as she aspires to become a renowned dentist worldwide.
She says, “If God blesses me, I want to become a renowned dentist worldwide and open a clinic in my country, so I can treat people and their teeth.”
While she uses her phone today to document the suffering of children and convey the details of their lives to the world, Nasreen looks forward to a future where she can help others through the profession she dreams of, in a homeland she hopes will remain a place for life, not for displacement and fear.
